On April 21, 2023: Google announced that they are removing four ranking systems from their list of algorithms: The Page experience system, The Mobile-friendly ranking system, The Pagespeed system, and The Secure sites system.

Core Web Vitals Update

In May 2021, Google released an update focused on Core Web Vitals, which are metrics that measure the speed, responsiveness, and visual stability of a website. Websites that meet Google's Core Web Vitals standards are more likely to rank higher in search results. This update emphasizes the importance of providing a fast and user-friendly website to improve search engine optimization (SEO).

Page Experience Update

In conjunction with the Core Web Vitals update, Google also released the Page Experience update in June 2021. This update includes several factors that contribute to a positive user experience, such as mobile-friendliness, safe browsing, and no intrusive interstitials (pop-ups). Websites that prioritize user experience are more likely to rank higher in search results.

Product Reviews Update

In April 2021, Google released an update to improve the visibility of product reviews in search results. This update allows users to see product reviews directly in search results, making it easier to find relevant and helpful information about products. For businesses, this update emphasizes the importance of having high-quality product reviews on their website to improve visibility and attract potential customers.

Passage Indexing Update

In February 2021, Google released the Passage Indexing update, which allows Google to index and rank specific passages within a web page rather than the entire page. This update benefits websites with long-form content by allowing Google to identify and rank relevant information more accurately. It also provides more targeted results for user queries.

December 2020 Core Update

In December 2020, Google released a broad core algorithm update that impacted search results across the board. This update focused on improving relevance and quality of search results, and many websites saw significant fluctuations in their rankings. It's important for businesses to regularly monitor their website's performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain their search visibility.

Google's recent updates prioritize user experience and relevance of search results. To stay competitive in search marketing, businesses should focus on providing a fast and user-friendly website, prioritizing high-quality product reviews, creating long-form content, and regularly monitoring their website's performance. By adapting to these updates, businesses can improve their search visibility and attract more potential customers.
