Press Release

Press Releases are the newsworthy articles that are intended to be published in the media for the purpose of showcasing the company's activities to the public. In other words, a press release is a news story, written in third person, for the purpose of announcing information which claims to have some news value and to demonstrate it's worthiness to the person, event, service or product.

Press Releases can be sent by email, fax, or via internet. There are a lot of Press Release sites which makes internet an important medium to distribute the news of any person, event, service or that of the product launched by a company to the public.

How To Write An Effective Press Release?

There are the following things to be considered for writing the press release,

1) Heading - Headline is the most important part of the press release. A proper headline will gather the attention of the journalists. Remember to state the most exciting news, or announcements about the person/company for a events, services, new products etc, in as few words as possible. The main thing to be kept in mind while developing the headline is - it should appeal to the journalist and he should find it interesting enough for the readers. This is press release so focus should be on the readers interest rather than creating some marketing headline of no interest to readers.

2) Sub-Heading - The sub heading forms another important part of the press release after the main heading. They give another opportunity to provide the interesting information to the reporter without providing the actual detail of the report.

3) Body - The body portion of the press release consists of the following
  • The Lead Paragraph
  • The Rest Part

3.a) The Lead Paragraph - This consists of the who, when, what, where and how of the story.

3.b) The Rest Part - This is the place to answer all the claims made and it should also support the information made in the headline. Here you can put quotes from message boards, by taking their permission. You can also mention their title, company's name in the quotes, to add more credibility to the message.

In the next paragraph, describe about your company and it's business.

4) Call for Action
To make your press release more attractive and prompt the readers to make some action, you can provide some call for action statements and prompt them to sign up or something like that.
